All was set just two weeks ago. The Bucs had a mid-year swoon going on and Huntington laid down the expectations that we have to get on a major winning streak to justify being BUYERS and not SELLERS by the July 31st non-waiver trade deadline. He felt confident that his message was clear…and logical given the recent performance of the Pirates.
Then the Bucs swept the Reds, then swept the Brewers, and then played one of the BEST teams in all of major league baseball and took the first two games from the Cleveland Indians. 11 wins in a row if you’re counting. The ALL-TIME Pirates record is 16 games straight in 1909. (109 years ago!)
What now? How can ownership and management justify that the Pirates have not MET THE CHALLENGE and DESERVE a chance to see the season through?
Stay tuned, as the illogical likely surfaces when dealing with the Nuttings.
