In addition to the standard Free Shirt Fridays and Zambelli Fireworks Nights, the Pirates are beefing up the promotions and gimmicks to try to lure you back in droves next season. Just announced are the promotional dates and give-aways for the 2018 season. Oh, you’d like to see a better baseball team on the field. Nah, that is not a priority…and why should it be when you can walk away with a free umbrella ($2.00-Dollar Store) on April 27th! And if that doesn’t thrill you, line up early at the gates for promotions including mini bats, drawstring bags, wristbands, and a magnetic schedule. Pinch me, pinch me…its almost too enticing to be true.
Or, you can hold out and save your ticket money up for the much awaited Sean Rodriguez Walk Off Bobblehead game on June 23rd. Who wouldn’t want a bobble of a guy who plastered the ball to the tune of a .167 batting average last year. Yes, he had the one moment with that timely walk-off, but to set the record straight in an interest of fair balance, he only had 22 hits all year.
When you look at the promotion schedule you will notice that Cutch, Bell and Rivero all have bobbles and figurines for their day…but why the fascination with this S-Rod is beyond me. Why not Cole or Taillon? Why not Harrison or Frazier? Why not Mercer or Freese? ANYTHING but Where’s Waldo Rodriguez makes more sense to me.
The Cubs, Cards, and Brewers are scrambling in the off-season to put a better product ON the field next year. Nutting and the Pirates are content with putting a plastic cartoon faced doll with a spring for a neck IN YOUR HANDS NEXT YEAR.
Gimmicks, gimmicks, gimmicks to try to appease you. Would not be surprised to see a Mad Max Moroff Pinata night at Mad Mex restaurant soon.
