With Nine Games Left…Can the Bucs Stay out of Last Place ??

Remember when they were a .500 team in early August?  Remember when they had closed to just 2 games out of first place?  They are 15 games UNDER 500 now and 17 games out of first place.  And herein lies the problem.  Those 17 games that they have backed off in the division have now put the Pirates just 3 games out of last place!  Rodriguez and Benoit didn’t save us after all.  What a shocker.

The above seems to be the mantra of Nutting, Huntington, Coonelly & Hurdle.  No one gives a SH** as long as they make money.

Here are some statistics courtesy of StatBrat for you:

  • The Pirates are 28th out of 30 major league teams in runs scored
  • The Pirates are 27th out of 30 major league teams in number of hits.
  • The Pirates have the 28th best batting average of all MLB teams.
  • The Pirates are 29th of 30 teams in hitting home runs.
  • The Pirates have NO OFFENSE…(especially when you bench starters for “regular days off so the Jasos, Rodriguezes, Moroffs, and Stewarts can play.

And here are two I will add:

  • The Pirates have the worst owner in MLB
  • The Pirates have the worst manager in MLB  (you ever hear that money follows money?  Well losing follows losers)

So here is our LAST poll of the season.  Will the Pirates A) Lose 90 games (that would be 3-6 from this point on) and B) Will the Pirates end up in last place?  Vote Now!

OOoops:  Almost Forgot that I just heard from Gumby.  He has two suggestions/comments.

  1.  Be FLEXIBLE with our expectations of the Pirates
  2. It’s ALL about the money…the green….as I demonstrate

Cards at birth. Pirates at college says:

Let me pick up the Pirates spirits! Enjoy!

    McGillicuddy says:

Gotta love those Cards girls. Hope to see them in the upcoming series with the Bucs starting Friday.

You folks remember Mario Mendoza? He was the unfortunate player that the term “Under the Mendoza line” came from, since very few hitters ever hit under his average. If you were nearing that dubious number, announcers would painfully say that “he is nearing the Mendoza line.” Well, here is the stat of the day that the goofy StatBrat did not say: Mario Mendoza had a lifetime .215 average. THE PIRATES HAVE 5 PLAYERS THAT GET A LOT OF PLAYING TIME THAT ARE ALL BELOW THAT!! (Stewart, Moroff, Luplow, Jaso, and last and certainly least .161 hitting Where’s Waldo Rodriguez, a full 54 points below the Mendoza line!)

    Pokey says:

Good to hear from Gumby. Haven’t heard from him in a while.

    Youngstown Fab says:

Rodriguez is hitting just 100 in September. He only has three hits in 12 games

    Rico Sanchez says:

Nicasio and the Cards beat the Bucs in Game #1 of the series. Nicasio pitched a flawless 8th and 9th inning, with just 17 pitches to shut down 6 straight Pirates.

He is now the St. Louis CLOSER! (And we gave him away for free!)

    Gunner says:

Yep. Nicasio looked great for the Cards, which makes Bottom Line Bob look stingy and stupid, and Neil Nothing- done look incompetent and foolish. Which they are. Pirates looked like the Keystone Cops, booting balls (Frazier), tripping on the infield (Friese and Mercer) and throwing balls into the outfield (Nova). Just bush league. Mailing it in.

BUT … Fireworks looked awesome. Weather was perfect. Jalipino Hanna won the pierogie race.

Takeaway: Bucs win streak stopped at 1 game. Can’t take this team seriously or you’d be sorely tempted to jump off the Clemente bridge.

    Metalivan says:

I’m all in. The Bucs will lose at least 90 games. Last night me and my Brother In Law watched as the pitcher the Pirates gave away while making the point that he was not going to a rival closed the game out in workmanlike fashion. Nicasio will probably be signed by the Cardinals and will haunt us for years. Lets Go BUCS!!!!!!

    Denny McClain says:

Bucs WIN! They have stretched out their lead on Cinci to stay out of last place. Let’s see if they can continue it.

As for Crybaby Cole, he may think he’s an ACE, but any guy bucking the all time Pirate list for home runs given up AND a guy with a 4.23 ERA…he is no ace.

    The Fan #1 Listener says:

I am happy ( severely delayed state of happiness) about one thing. Hurdle may have finally realized that our best pure hitter on the team with the highest batting average SHOULD probably be playing every day. Frazier is the future of the team and will develop into an All-Star. Hurdle was SLOOOOOW to recognize that Watson was inferior to Rivero as a Closer and was SLOOOOW to realize Frazier’s value. Again I wonder how many more games the Bucs could have won if we just had a manager that could see what everyone else sees.

    Youngstown Fab says:

Bucs win but yet another 0-fer for Where’s Waldo Rodriguez. He’s at .155 now. How embarrassing.

    Zuki says:

.088 in Sept. for Sean Rod. Must have something on Hurdle.

    Boxing Jimmy says:

This is the way it is done moronic, misguided, ungrateful Steelers! You are thumbing your nose at the freedoms others have fought for in your behalf.
